Anyway, I started this thread with the purpose of being an in-depth guide with pictures (Actually, the forum is preventing me from linking five or more pictures, so I will add more when I can) to help those in distress (and just itching to dive into the World of Warcraft) who are having trouble either with downloading the client, patching, setting up or/and connecting to the server. If you are still having trouble, simply send me a private message via this forum and I will reply to you ASAP (Click on my name and hit "Send private message")
Step 1: Installing WoW
Step 2: Patching WoW
Step 3: Changing the realmlist
I will go further into each of these steps. So if you are stuck at a particular step in your quest for WoW, just press CTRL - F and type in Step # (# being the step number that applies to your situation)
Step 1:
This, of course, involves installing WoW. After all, you can't really dive into the world without it (I mean you could just pretend, but... never mind). That should mean (for maximum fun) installing Pre-Burning Crusade (Pre-TBC), The Burning Crusade (TBC), and Wrath of the Lich King (WoTLK). There are many links that exists in the internet (a series of tubes) that allows for direct download of the client and the two expansion sets. Now be prepared, all file sizes are relatively large, so you may want to make sure you have at least ~10 GB's before you begin downloading the necessary files to install WoW. You may also want to make certain that your computer can actually run WoW without completely lagging or crashing.
The system requirements for World of Warcraft:
PC:
* Processor: 800MHz or higher CPU.
* RAM: 256Mb or more.
* Video: GeForce 2 or better
* Hard Drive Space: 3Gb or more available.
* DirectX 9.0 or above.
Mac (Ewww...):
* Operating System: MacOS X 10.3 (Panther) or better.
* Processor:1.0GHz or higher G4 or G5.
* RAM: 512Mb or higher, DDR RAM recommended.
* Video: ATI or NVIDIA video hardware with 64Mb VRAM or more.
* Hard Drive Space: 3Gb or more available.
Bear in mind, these are just the minimum requirements, so you may want to have a computer that exceed these in order to WoW running at optimal performance, which is directly proportional to your fun ( I mean, it would be frustrating as hell if your WoW froze every four or five seconds).
And now, instead of actually looking for the required specs to play WoW on your computer, this website does it for you: http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/intro.aspx <- Thank Havox for the website
All you have to do is go down the list and select "World of Warcraft" and hit "Can You Run It."
Now that you have made sure your computer can actually run WoW properly, you may want to proceed to the following links to download WoW:
- http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors <- For this link, scroll down to where it says "None → 3.0.1 (Full, ~7.3 GiB)" and try using the "US" link beside "worldofwarcraft/wow-europe.com (Official & Free)" (Don't worry about it being official. You merely need their client)
Other links you could use to download the client are:
- http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/806...nt-v3-0-1-full -OR-
- http://www.wow-patch.in/client.php <- You got to click on one of those circles with the national flags to start the download for this link
Step 2
Alright, now that you have downloaded the WoW client, it's time to patch it to the appropriate patch. Currently, our servers are using 3.3.2, so you should update your WoW client to version 3.3.2. Once again, there exists thousands of links offering the patches necessary. However, I have saved you the trouble of looking and found them around for you. Anyway, you will have to update your WoW client in order. You should have downloaded and installed the WoW client that is 3.0.1 (which you probably have if you have been following along).
So these two links should provide all the patches you ever need to play WoW:
- http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors <- For any patch beyond 3.2.2a
- http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors_(old_patches) <- For any patch under 3.2.2a
Because I am such a nice guy, I have even compiled a list which you can simply click on and download the patches in order of which ones you should be patching with.
Beginning with 3.x.x -> 3.2.0. (meaning you could have 3.0.1. or anything starting with 3 . something something and still use this patch):
-http://depositfiles.com/en/files/2ddxubk78
-OR-
- http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/803...3-2-0-full-usa
Next, comes 3.2.0 -> 3.2.2a:
- http://rapidshare.com/files/30000883...enUS-patch.zip
-OR-
- http://depositfiles.com/en/files/wxy1bmgy7
-OR-
- http://uploading.com/files/21e127e3/...nUS-patch.rar/
After which comes 3.2.2a -> 3.3.0.
-http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/825...-3-3-0-usa-aus
-OR-
- http://www.worthdownloading.com/down...d=151&id=20872
-OR-
- http://www.games32.com/World-Of-Warc...15_fileid/3055
Then, 3.3.0. -> 3.3.3.a
- http://hotfile.com/dl/40819864/bfb20...patch.zip.html
-OR-
- http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/858...-to-3-3-3a-usa
Finally, 3.3.3a -> 3.3.5a
- http://hotfile.com/dl/51743518/6857e...patch.zip.html
-OR-
- http://depositfiles.com/en/files/0peztrnm2
Lo and behold, we are done patching!
Step 3:
Anyway, Step 3 is quite a short step. The objective here is to find your "realmlist.wtf" and alter the contents that are inside the file. It's not as complicated as you may think and all computers should be equipped with the necessary programs to open the file. (Spoiler: It's notepad!)
Anyway, beginning by locating your World of Warcraft folder on your computer.
Next, double-click and go into the file called "Data" located within your WoW folder.
Once inside the folder, "Data', there should only be one folder inside of it. It's has different names for clients of different languages, but if you are using the english one, it's most likely "EN-US".
Now, inside this folder, there should be a file called realmlist.wtf. Open it using Notepad (and ignore the other options, those are just my anti-virus programs).
Once you have opened "realmlist.wtf" with notepad, delete everything and replace it with:
set realmlist dragonwow.co.uk
*Please note you will have to repeat this step every time you patch the client again from now on*
And with that, you are done installing, patching and reconfiguring WoW. Now you are all set to play. However, if you have not made an account for this server, please do so here:
http://www.dragonwow.co.uk/create.php
Once you have registered for an account, start up WoW (through WoW.exe in your World of Warcraft folder) and login. Welcome to the World of Warcraft!
* Once inside the game (past character creation, which is up to you. However, the right choice should be Undead! And if you must choose Rogue, you better be good or else... >:| And, remember to hit "Enter" and type /join world to join the chat channel. Simply type /world message to talk in the channel.
Anyway, enjoy! Now, if Xan would free me of my boar-slaying prison, perhaps I will even see you in-game.
PS: If I am missing anything in the guide or if something is inaccurate, feel free to tell me and I will try to fix it right anyway.
